CLINICAL INFORMATION :

Perls Stain is a cheap and relatively simple test that can be used as a routine test in all bone marrow aspirates to provide provisional diagnosis like in cases of chronic anemias, fever of unknown origin, etc. The gold standard method for the diagnosis of iron deficiency is assessed by Perls’ stain test.  Microscopic examination of Perls’ Prussian blue stained bone marrow aspirate smears is considered the gold standard for the assessment of the marrow iron store in the body.
