ANTI-MALARIAL ANTIBODY:

Why Anti-malarial antibody test?

CLINICAL INFORMATION :

Anti-Malarial Antibody test can detect parasite infection even at low parasitemia and hence this test is useful to detect in screening malaria in endemic areas. The test principle of malarial parasite is based on an immunochromatographic test. It is based on the parasite antigen on a solid immobile phase v/s patient’s serum antibodies that target to conjugate (antigen-antibody complex – Ag-Ab complex) to either liposome containing selenium dye or gold particles in a mobile phase.  Clinical manifestations of malaria are episodes of experiencing cycles of malarial attack – usually starts with shivering and chills followed by a high fever followed by sweating then returning to normal body temperature,  high temperature of over 38⁰C or above, chills and rigors, headaches, vomiting, muscle pain, diarrhea, rapid heart rate, rapid breathing, etc. Complications cerebral malaria, breathing problems, organ failure, anemia, low blood sugar. Other indirect tests include detection of malarial antigen detection test: The two most commonly targeted antigens are histidine-rich protein 2 – HRP2 (which is specific to plasmodium falciparum) and plasmodium lactate dehydrogenase (pLDH) – which is present in all plasmodium species.
