Why ANA-2 test?            


ANA HEp-2 test is performed to identify features of the antinuclear antibody (ANA)-HEp-2 for the confirmation of auto-immune rheumatic disease (ADR). The detection of the antinuclear antibody (ANA)-HEp-2 is done by indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) assay or ELISA test as a standard blood test. Anti-nuclear antibodies (ANAs, also known as anti-nuclear factor-ANF) are autoantibodies that bind to the contents of the cell nucleus. There are many subtypes of ANAs such as anti-RO antibodies, anti-La antibodies, anti-Sm V, anti-RNP antibodies, anti-Scl-70 antibodies, anti-dsDNA antibodies, anti-histone antibodies, antibodies to nuclear pore complexes, anti-centromere antibodies, and anti-sp 100 antibodies, etc. These ANAs help in the diagnosis of auto-immune disorders associated with certain diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren syndrome, primary biliary cirrhosis, multiple sclerosis, discoid lupus, thyroid disease, psoriatic arthritis, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, scleroderma, mixed connective tissue disease, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, autoimmune hepatitis, drug-induced lupus, infection, cancer, and rheumatoid arthritis.
